6.2.20. System of repeated burning of exhaust gases (EGR)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Typical system of repeated burning of exhaust gases

Arrangement of the EGR valve and converter of the return pressure

For reduction of emission of oxides of nitrogen the part of exhaust gases is taken away through the EGR system valve in an inlet collector.

The system of repeated burning of exhaust gases consists of the EGR valve, the electromagnetic valve, the converter of pressure (VRT), the block of electronic control (ESM) and vacuum lines connecting various components of system. The converter of pressure (VRT) copes vacuum and doses amount of exhaust gases which is exposed to repeated burning. The ESM block on the basis of information from sensors makes inclusion and switching off of system of repeated burning of exhaust gases.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Start the engine in the mode of idling and warm up it up to the normal working temperature. Sharply open a butterfly valve so that turns of the engine increased to 2000–3000 rpm and close a butterfly valve. Thus the rod of the EGR valve has to move.
2. If when checking the rod of the EGR valve does not move, check all connections of a hose. Disconnect a vacuum hose from the valve and the manual vacuum pump create vacuum.
3. If the valve rod still does not move, replace the EGR valve. If the valve rod, moves, check a valve stroke which has to make 3 mm. Also at completely open valve rough operation of the engine up to a stop has to be observed.
4. Create vacuum in a hose by means of the manual vacuum pump, then press a hose. Thus the EGR valve has to remain open at least during 30 sec. Otherwise the diaphragm of the valve is punched, and the EGR valve needs to be replaced.
5. If rough operation of the engine, perhaps is observed, the EGR valve is not closed. In this case it is necessary to remove the valve and to examine it on existence of carbonaceous deposits.
6. If the EGR valve works normally, check the electromagnetic valve. First of all check passing of vacuum from the throttle case to the electromagnetic valve. Disconnect a vacuum hose from the electromagnetic valve and install the manometer on a hose. During the operation of the cold engine the manometer has to show vacuum of an inlet collector. When opening a butterfly valve the vacuum in a hose has to decrease in inverse proportion to engine turns. Check resistance of a winding of the electromagnetic valve which has to be in limits of 10-100 Ohms.

Replacement

EGR VALVE

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. Remove a casing of the air filter.
3. Disconnect a vacuum hose from the EGR valve.
4. Lift the car and record on supports.
5. Remove an EGR pipe from a final collector and lower the car.
6. Unscrew bolts of fastening of the EGR valve.
7. Remove the EGR valve with laying from a collector.
8. Installation is made in sequence, the return to removal.

ELECTROMAGNETIC EGR VALVE

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. Pick up the air inlet phone from the case of the air filter.
3. Disconnect the electric socket from the electromagnetic valve.
4. Mark and disconnect two vacuum hoses from the electromagnetic valve.
5. Unscrew the screw of fastening and remove the electromagnetic valve.
6. Installation is made in sequence, the return to removal.
